How Edge Engineering Was Founded
Edge Engineering was founded in 2018 when Jason Bluff, a Professional Engineer with over a decade of structural and civil engineering experience, recognised that developers and architects in Gauteng were underserved — either dealing with large impersonal firms that treated projects as line items, or smaller practices without the credentials, insurance, or software capability to deliver at scale.
The goal was straightforward: build a BBBEE Level 2 engineering practice where a qualified Professional Engineer is accountable on every project, designs are project-specific and construction-ready, and clients are not passed down to junior staff once the contract is signed.
Based in Bedfordview, Gauteng, Edge Engineering now serves property developers, architects, contractors, and project managers across six countries in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. We are not the biggest structural engineering firm in Gauteng. But we are among the most deliberate — and every project we take on reflects that.

Edge Engineering is guided by Colossians 3:23 — "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart." This is not a tagline. It means every calculation, every drawing, and every deadline is treated with the same level of seriousness, whether the project is a residential extension in Johannesburg or a multi-million rand commercial development in the DRC. The standard does not change based on the size of the fee.
Precision over convenience
There are faster ways to produce structural drawings. Generic templates, recycled calculations, and understaffed review processes exist in this industry — and developers pay for them later through delays, rework, and structural deficiencies. Edge Engineering produces project-specific designs using the latest engineering software — Revit, Prokon, Tekla Structural Designer, Robot Structural Analysis, and Civil 3D — because precision at the design stage protects the project at every stage that follows.
Credentials that hold under scrutiny
When a developer presents engineering sign-off to a bank, a municipality, or a procurement committee, those credentials need to hold up. Edge Engineering maintains Pr Eng accreditation on every project, BBBEE Level 2 certification, and R25,000,000 in Professional Indemnity Insurance — not because it looks good on a website, but because our clients' projects require it and they deserve the protection.
